EARLY DETECTION AND EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF CARDIOVASCULAR ISSUES DURING PREGNANCY

Dr. Pham Thu Thuy, Clinical and Interventional Cardiology Department, Hanoi French Hospital (HFH), explained: “Cardiovascular conditions during pregnancy are often difficult to diagnose because their symptoms can easily be mistaken for common physiological changes during pregnancy, such as shortness of breath, fatigue, palpitations, or leg swelling.”

Pregnant women should pay close attention to the following symptoms:

  • Persistent shortness of breath, especially after the 20th week of pregnancy
  • Waking up at night due to palpitations or breathlessness
  • Chest pain, heart palpitations, or coughing up blood
  • Blurred vision, fainting, or severe swelling

Additionally, many women with pre-existing heart conditions may only exhibit noticeable symptoms during pregnancy. Therefore, women of childbearing age, especially those who are older, overweight, or obese, or have hypertension, should consult a cardiologist before pregnancy to detect potential issues early and assess risks during pregnancy.

At Hanoi French Hospital, expectant mothers can feel confident with:

  • A highly skilled medical team: Close multidisciplinary collaboration among obstetricians, cardiologists, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and others to provide effective treatment, manage risk factors, and prevent or address complications during pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum.
  • Individualized treatment and care strategies: For pregnant women with cardiovascular conditions, based on the recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the Vietnam Society of Cardiology.
  • Advanced diagnostic and laboratory systems: State-of-the-art imaging and testing equipment that meets European and American standards, enabling early detection of abnormalities in both mother and baby.
  • Operating room equipped for all emergencies and adhering to the highest international standards for sterilization and infection control.
