The Laboratory Department is one of the core units of Hanoi French Hospital, playing a pivotal role in diagnosis, treatment, and patient follow-up. The department performs a wide range of medical tests across multiple specialties—Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, and Pathology—delivering fast and accurate results.

Operating 24/7, the department serves both inpatients and outpatients, supporting doctors in making timely and effective treatment decisions.

Key achievement – ISO 15189:2022

On June 24, 2025, the Laboratory Department of Hanoi French Hospital officially received the ISO 15189:2022 certification from the Accreditation Office for Standard Conformity (AOSC) at its very first assessment. The certification covers three core areas—Hematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology—with 27 accredited testing parameters, including 19 Biochemistry tests, 7 Hematology tests, and 1 Microbiology test.
This achievement demonstrates the department’s comprehensive standardization in processes, equipment, and personnel, ensuring test results are accurate, consistent, and reliable. It also marks a milestone affirming the department’s technical capacity, continuous efforts, and the hospital’s commitment to quality.

Professional team

The Laboratory Department at Hanoi French Hospital comprises a team of well-trained specialists and technicians with deep expertise in Hematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. All doctors and technicians regularly attend continuous training courses and receive periodic instruction in quality management, biosafety, and infection control.
As a result, the team is proficient in standard operating procedures (SOPs), skilled in handling equipment, and ensures that every test is conducted accurately in compliance with international standards.

Close collaboration between clinicians, laboratory experts, and experienced technicians shortens diagnostic turnaround times, enhances the reliability of test results, and effectively supports treatment decisions.

Equipment & Management systems

The department is equipped with state-of-the-art automated analyzers with barcode-reading technology to ensure accurate patient identification. Test results are transmitted directly to the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and integrated with the Hospital Information System (HIS), enabling timely access for physicians.

The laboratory equipment includes:

• Automated hematology analyzer (XN1000);
• Automated coagulation analyzer (ACL Top);
• Automated biochemistry analyzer (Cobas Pro-C503);
• Automated immunoassay analyzers (e801 and Alinity i);
• Automated blood culture and microbial/fungal detection system (BacT/ ALEZT 3D60).
• This system enables the analysis of multiple samples quickly while minimizing errors.

Quality control & assurance

The Laboratory Department maintains routine internal quality control across all tests and strictly adheres to international quality control guidelines (CLSI, Westgard, etc.) and the Ministry of Health regulations.

In addition, the department participates in multiple prestigious external quality assessment programs, including:

• RIQAS – The world’s largest international external quality assessment program by Randox in Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunology, and Microbiology, with more than 47,000 laboratories in over 139 countries participating. This program enables the department to evaluate and improve test accuracy by benchmarking its results against laboratories worldwide.
• External quality assessment program by the Center for Medical Laboratory Standardization – Hanoi Medical University.
• External quality assessment program by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
