Tầm soát đột quỵ

« Stroke » is the common keyword searched by many people nowadays. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In fact, according to WHO, it is the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer (accounting for 13-15%) and the leading cause of disability in adults.

Stroke, commonly called cerebrovascular accidents, is the sudden death of some brain cells due to lack of oxygen when the blood flow to the brain is lost by blockage (cerebral infarction) or rupture of an artery to the brain (intracerebral hemorrrhage).

An cerebral infarction often occurs suddenly with onset symptoms like speech disorders, hemiplegia, dizziness which are mainly caused by extracranial or intracranial large artery diseases (valvular heart disease and arythmia)

Intracerebral hemorrhage is often caused by rupture of microaneurysms due to chronic hypertension.

In the Western industrialized countries, about 100-300 out of 100.000 people have stroke each year. In the developed countries, about 87 percent of strokes are cerebral infarction. In Vietnam, the rate of brain infarction and intracerebral hemorrhage is nearly equal, showing that the management of hypertension and preventive measures against stroke are not sufficient.

Early detection of signs of the disease and good control of hypertension play an important role in reducing the risks of the disease, shortening the treatment time, and helping to better prevent stroke.
