PROTECT YOUR CHILD FROM RSV RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS WITH THE BEYFORTUS MONOCLONAL ANTIBODY

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the leading cause of lower respiratory tract infections in young children aged 6 months to 5 years. The disease can manifest at varying degrees of severity - from rhinitis and bronchiolitis to pneumonia - and may progress rapidly to respiratory failure, requiring oxygen therapy or mechanical ventilation.

PROTECT YOUR CHILD FROM RSV RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS WITH THE BEYFORTUS MONOCLONAL ANTIBODY

According to Dr. Dinh Thi Thu Phuong, Pediatrician – Deputy Head of Pediatrics & Neonatology Department, Hanoi French Hospital (HFH):

“RSV spreads very easily through droplets and direct contact, particularly during seasonal outbreaks, though it can circulate year-round. Since there is currently no specific antiviral treatment, management mainly focuses on supportive care. Therefore, prevention remains the most effective and sustainable strategy to reduce hospitalization and complications in children.”

Beyfortus (Nirsevimab) – A Long-Acting Monoclonal Antibody

Beyfortus offers superior protection compared to the previous monoclonal antibody, Palivizumab, thanks to its extended duration of action. It does not require multiple doses and can be used in all infants, marking a more comprehensive and proactive approach to RSV prevention with the following advantages:

  • Rapid and direct protection: Nirsevimab binds to the RSV F protein, preventing the virus from entering respiratory epithelial cells and stopping infection from the earliest stage.
  • Up to 83% reduction in RSV-related hospitalizations compared to unprotected children.
  • Suitable for all infants: including healthy full-term babies, preterm infants, and those with underlying conditions.
  • Long-lasting protection: typically 5 – 6 months after injection, covering the RSV season.
  • High safety profile: can be administered concurrently with other routine vaccines.
  • Approved and recommended by major international health authorities (FDA, EMA) and already in use in multiple countries, including Vietnam.

Recommended Recipients of Nirsevimab

According to guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Academy of Pediatrics, Nirsevimab is recommended for: All newborns and children under 24 months of age.

Recommended timing for prophylaxis:

  • Infants born before or during the RSV season, or children under 24 months at risk of infection: should receive the injection before the start of RSV season (from September to April).
  • Infants born during the RSV season: should receive the injection soon after birth.

However, as RSV circulates at low levels throughout the year, the monoclonal antibody may be administered at any time, especially for high-risk infants.
